Mateusz Gamrot just picked up the biggest win of his UFC career and he has the attention of Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Following his win over Arman Tsarukyan in Saturday’s UFC Vegas 57 main event, Gamrot spoke to the media and relayed a brief conversation he had with Nurmagomedov, the former UFC lightweight champion widely regarded as one of the best ever to compete in MMA.
Gamrot was asked why he called out Justin Gaethje during his post-fight interview and that led to him discussing Nurmagomedov and Nurmagomedov’s protege, Islam Makhachev.
“I’m a big fan of Justin Gaethje,” Gamrot said. “I have a lot of respect for him, I think he’s the most brutal guy in the lightweight division. This guy fought two times in title shots. I think he is old school, I am new generation, now I want to switch places. I start climbing in the top.
“Today, I was asking with Khabib, he said to me, ‘Congratulations on your fight. You are a nice guy. For sure, in the future you will meet with Islam in a fight.’ So I keep my fingers crossed for Islam, I think Islam beats Charles Oliveira next fight, and I want a next fight with Justin and next fighting with Islam. Simple plan.”
Though nothing is official yet, Makhachev is expected to fight Oliveira in the near future for a vacant lightweight title following Oliveira losing the belt on the scale at UFC 274 this past May. Should Makhachev become champion, Gamrot has already envisioned the path he has to take for the two of them to meet in a title fight.
Nurmagomedov was in attendance at UFC APEX in Las Vegas on Saturday, so he had the chance to see Gamrot compete in a thrilling five-round fight against Tsarukyan. Gamrot’s team had to be in top form to coach their fighter to victory after a slow start.
“My corner told me, ‘Hey, you lose the first and second round,’” Gamrot said. “And I know that I have to accelerate. If I want to win, I have to accelerate to another round. But I told you in the press conference before the fight, I am experienced. I’m used to fighting five rounds, I’m used to big pressure, I used to be the champion, you know?
“I saw Arman’s eyes, that he was going down every single round. His conditioning going down, my conditioning going up, and I knew that conditioning was going to be key this fight.”
Regarding inspirational words received from former UFC champions, Nurmagomedov’s name wasn’t the only one that came up during Gamrot’s media scrum. The Polish standout was also asked about the influence of his countrywoman, the recently retired former UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Gamrot credited Jedrzejczyk with pushing him in his own career.
“Joanna is my really good friend,” Gamrot said. “She helped me a lot too when I signed a contract to the UFC. She helped me a lot every single day. She gave me a lot of motivation and now I’m so happy that she’s going to retire because I think she deserves that.
“She deserves everything beautiful in life. She was a superstar in the UFC for many years, she was five or six times the world champion, she did everything in the UFC. She is a true warrior, a true fighter, she has a strong mentality, and I wish her all the best in life.”
With her impressive achievements inside the Octagon and exuberant post-fight celebrations, UFC strawweight Vanessa Demopoulos never ceases to wow fight fans.
At UFC Vegas 57, “Lil Monster” defeated Jinh Yu Frey via split decision to make it two victories in a row before leaping into the arms of MMA great Michael Bisping during the post-fight press conference.

Demopoulos gained notoriety earlier this year when, following a submission victory at UFC 270, she threw herself into the arms of renowned podcaster and UFC commentator Joe Rogan.
The 33-year-old evaluated the two encounters and came to the conclusion that Rogan’s embrace was significantly superior because he caught her while Bisping only used one hand to support her weight.
Joe was far superior. Demopoulos laughed at the UFC Vegas 57 post-fight news conference when he claimed, “Even though I forced it upon both of them, neither of them had an option.
Because it’s a characteristic of his personality, I kind of knew Bisping wouldn’t hold me up.
4 Bisping was taken aback by the UFC strawweight.

Prior to making a name for herself in the UFC, Demopoulos combined MMA with a 13-year stripping career and only walked away from the profession a couple of months prior to UFC 270 to fully focus on being a fighter.
The American admitted that she found it difficult to juggle the two jobs and it ultimately led to her taking it easy during training sessions in order to preserve energy for her demanding second gig.
“I had to pace myself so that I could make it through an eight-hour shift of doing crazy gymnastics and dancing. Just being a personality throughout the duration of those shifts,” Demopoulos told MMA Mania.

“It was exhausting to be awake until four o’clock in the morning and still make sure you’re maintaining a healthy lifestyle to be an athlete at the highest calibre possible in one of the toughest sports imaginable.
“So it’s been nice being a retired stripper, for sure.”
Demopoulos, who authored a book called ‘The Stripper Bible,’ is now 2-1 in her UFC career and 7-4 overall in MMA.

After winning convincingly by unanimous decision against Nate Maness at UFC Vegas 57, Umar Nurmagomedov proved that he is worthy of the hype.
With his cousin Khabib by his side, Nurmagomedov quickly demonstrated his supremacy in the clinch against Maness, putting the American to the ground with ease in the opening two rounds and then unleashing a barrage of vicious elbows and blows from the top.
In round three, Nurmagomedov demonstrated that he is more than just a grappler by delivering a vicious head kick before knocking Maness to the ground once more and pummeling him with powerful ground and pound. The 26-year-old demanded a top-ten bantamweight as his next opponent in his post-fight interview.

UFC Vegas 57: Tsarukyan vs. Gamrot Results & Highlights
MMA News is providing ongoing coverage of UFC Vegas 57. We’ve got you covered with live results, video highlights, and post-fight tidbits.
In her brief MMA career, Buffalo’s Miranda Maverick has already triumphed in three UFC matches and numerous others at lesser divisions. She might not even be the family’s finest fighter, according to Maverick. Miranda remarked, “I think she’ll be better than I am or ever was.
She is referring to Skyler, her younger sister, who recently achieved victory in her very first combat situation. I didn’t want to do it at all whenever I heard about it, Skyler stated.
The 18-year-old had just been training for two months and was fresh out of Buffalo High School. She now only had a week to get ready. By chance, Skyler’s older sister from Denver was in town. And she wouldn’t permit Skyler to enter the Octagon without first passing a test on par with that in the UFC. The day’s main objective, according to Miranda, was to get her to give up. I thought, “If I can get her to give up, she won’t fight.”
Skyler scored a perfect score. with the same tenacity she demonstrated while representing the Bison in state wrestling three times. It contributes to Miranda’s belief in Skyler’s potential.
She has a more extensive background than I have, Miranda added. She still has six years of work experience. She began practicing jiu-jitsu at our house. She currently has a wrestling background.
“I want to be the best,” said Skylar. “Like Miranda, the next Ronda Rousey.”
Skylar frequently beams. Don’t let that deceive you, warns her sister. Miranda remarked, “She’s meaner than me.”
Miranda found that being in Skyler’s corner was considerably more difficult than being in the ring. It was frightening, said Miranda. I detested it. It irked me. The entire time, my father was sitting there making jokes with me. She laughed and continued, “Now you understand how it feels.
With 50 seconds left in the first round, Skyler submitted her opponent via rear naked choke. Miranda’s go-to maneuver. “It made me emotional,” said Skylar. “We hugged in the cage and I said I loved her.”
Skyler already has options for future fights. But could we ever see a Maverick vs. Maverick fight?
“They’re going to be like, ‘Yes fight each other,’” said Skylar. “I’ve thought about that. But I don’t think that will ever happen. I wouldn’t be able to punch my sister in the face.”
“Oh really?” Miranda responded with a laugh. “OK, then I’ll agree. I’m surprised she said that. I would have thought little sister would want to one up me, no problem.”
